From May 2023, AUSTRALIAN citizens holding temporary residence cards or valid Vietnam visas can continue to enter the country without applying for a Vietnam visa or approval letter.  At present, do Australians who want to travel to Vietnam need to apply for a visa?

According to the Vietnamese government’s decree, Australians are not on the list of citizens of Visa-free countries. Therefore, Australians need to hold a valid Vietnam visa or visa-free certificate to travel to Vietnam. Therefore, at present, Australian citizens who want to enter Vietnam for tourism need to apply for a Vietnam visa in advance.

AUSTRALIAN citizens can apply for a Vietnam visa or visa-free certificate in one of four ways:

• Apply for a Vietnamese tourist visa directly at the Vietnamese Embassy in Australia.
• Apply for a Vietnamese visa online on the “eVisa Vietnam” system of the Vietnamese government website.
• Individuals, organizations, and units in Vietnam (guarantors of Australian entry) shall go through immigration officer application procedures at Vietnam Immigration Bureau.

Option 1. Apply for a visa at the Vietnamese Embassy in Australia

Documents required for Australian who are going to Vietnam to apply for visas:

• Complete the online visa application form, print and sign it. Apply on the website: http://visa.mofa.gov.vn.
• The original and copy of the passport shall be valid for at least six months from the expected date of arrival in Vietnam, with empty pages.
• Two color photos, white background size 2×2 inches.
• Vietnam visa application fee.
• Reservation hotel room reservation.
