From 2023, U.S. citizens holding a 5-year visa-free, temporary residence card or a valid Vietnam visa can continue to enter the country without applying for a Vietnam visa or approval letter.  At present, do Americans who want to travel to Vietnam need to apply for a visa?

According to the Vietnamese government’s decree, Americans are not on the list of citizens of Visa-free countries. • Individuals, organizations, and units in Vietnam (guarantors of American entry) shall go through immigration officer application procedures at Vietnam Immigration Bureau.

Option 1. Apply for a visa at the Vietnamese Embassy in the United States

Documents required for Americans who are going to Vietnam to apply for visas:

• Complete the online visa application form, print and sign it. Apply on the website: http://visa.mofa.gov.vn。
• The original and copy of the passport shall be valid for at least six months from the expected date of arrival in Vietnam, with empty pages.
• Two color photos, white background size 2×2 inches.
• Vietnam visa application fee.

Application processing time: according to the regulations: 3-7 working days (from the date of receiving complete and adequate documents).
